With many unforeseen challenges, Woodward delivered this major modernization project to Baptist’s historic hospital campus without any schedule delays.
Since 1926, Baptist Hospital has served generations of New Orleanians from its location on the tree lined Napoleon Avenue. Today, Ochsner Health Systems continues to be a leader in regional health care at multiple locations. As part of the renovation and modernization of the Ochsner Baptist Hospital, Woodward Design+Build was hired as the general contractor to renovate existing hospital spaces into women’s healthcare facilities.
Areas of the hospital, vacant since Hurricane Katrina, were renovated into a new central sterile, an Alternative Birthing Center, a Maternal Fetal Medicine Clinic, a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Women’s Clinics, Nursery and Labor and Delivery area. Woodward’s experience in historic renovation and medical facilities provided Ochsner with a project team able to work in an operating facility while adding state-of-the-art technologies and modern amenities to the facility.
Throughout the project, the Woodward construction team overcame many challenges to get the new facilities open on time. The team encountered mold and water intrusion damage and cracked plumbing waste lines that had to be repaired and reused. In spite of these delays, the overall project deadline was met without extension. The project was spread out over 6 floors of the hospital and conducted while areas of the hospital remained open and operational. Woodward’s careful coordination of all work led to timely project delivery without causing interruptions to the existing operations.
