Our Work
New Orleans Military & Maritime Academy
Woodward Design+Build’s work has continued at Federal City in Algiers as the design-build contractor for the New Orleans Military and Maritime Academy.
This project entailed construction of a $17 million campus, including the renovation of two historic Navy buildings on the campus site. A new building was designed with consideration of the existing historic structures and was constructed to tie into both existing buildings. Historic details, including great amounts of exposed existing brick, are apparent throughout the interior of the school buildings.
Woodward completed construction before the end of 2013, allowing NOMMA to move the school from the temporary site into the new facilities over the students’ holiday break. This aggressive construction schedule prevented interruptions to the student schedule that would have been caused by a mid-semester move.
The new high school, where students are cadets and members of the Marine Corps Junior ROTC program, includes classroom spaces, music and band rooms, a cafeteria, labs, locker rooms and administrative offices.
Other projects at Federal City have included the Marine Corps Support Facility, YMCA at Federal City, the Federal City Auditorium and the Federal City Parking Garage.
