Our Work

Associated Branch Pilots Annex Building

Woodward designs for comfort and resiliency to our area’s bar pilots.

The Associated Branch Pilots’ Annex Building project is an impressive addition to their existing facility in Venice, LA, and Woodward’s role as the design-builder highlights their expertise in delivering tailored solutions for specialized needs. The 19,000 sq ft Annex will provide much-needed housing for an additional 11 pilots and 10 crew members, ensuring that the organization’s operations continue smoothly with ample space for its team.

The focus on resiliency is particularly noteworthy, as the waterfront location demands robust design features. With the two-story structure elevated 27 feet off the ground and engineered to withstand winds up to 200 mph, the building will be well-prepared for the challenges of the coastal environment. Additionally, the self-sustaining water and power systems, capable of supporting the facility for up to four weeks in the event of a natural disaster, demonstrate the thoughtful planning behind the design.

The louvered bridge connection between the Annex and the existing building is a key feature, providing safe and protected passage for pilots. This attention to both functionality and safety ensures that the pilots will have a secure and comfortable environment while performing their vital duties.
