2023 Woodward Fishing Rodeo
Woodward partners with GNOF and repurposing a long-loved event.
RODEO RECAP
In its 100th year, Woodward set up at the Rigolets Marina in Slidell, Louisiana to enjoy the return of one of its long-loved events: the Annual Fishing Rodeo. The event also served as the organization’s inaugural fundraiser in support of the Woodward Foundation.
Woodward Foundation is a donor-advised fund generated in partnership with the Greater New Orleans Foundation to support local 501(c)(3) organizations. The inaugural event raised over $10,000 in support of the foundation. Woodward greatly appreciates the contributions of their vendors, trade partners, and fund supporters as they work together to make a positive impact to our community.
The 2023 Rodeo saw over 90 attendees made up of employees, subs, families and friends. They enjoyed lunch from Copeland’s, courtesy of United Rentals and beverages from H&E Equipment. The youngest attendees enjoyed sno-balls from A&A Mechanical, a bounce house from Sunbelt Rentals, and dock games.
As the anglers made their “weigh-in” Dale Carrier, and Denise McCaskell started the tedious task of weighing and measuring the fish. This year’s winners were:
- Heaviest Redfish, Gage Pierce (Woodward) – 9.13lbs
- Biggest Speckled Trout, Mitchell Silk (Stewart) – 2.4lbs
- Biggest Flounder, Trey Rodrigue (Woodward) – 1.15lbs
- Biggest Sheepshead, Chad Hollingsworth (Perque) – 4.9lbs
- Biggest Freshwater Fish, Perry Barras (Himmel’s) – 5.05lbs Catfish
- Biggest Fish (Under 16yr old), Connor Robertson (King Company) – 36lb Black Drum
- Biggest Fish Overall, Kerry Robertson (King Company) – 38lb Black Drum
